Household of David which is known as a Popular Lagos church pastored by Sola Osunmakinde, was razed by fire on Wednesday.The auditorium, situated at 7, Surulere Industrial Road, off Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja, the state capital, was engulfed in flames just hours before the church’s highly anticipated annual conference, Mercy Conference 2024. The spacious auditorium can accommodate a large number of people at once.

Describing the origins of the peculiar fire, the church’s head pastor, a solemn Osunmakinde, recounted the heart-wrenching sight of everything engulfed in flames.

“I arrived here this morning and everything was going smoothly, we were in the process of setting up,” he recounted. Out of nowhere, a strange noise caught our attention, followed by the sight of flames.

According to Osunmakinde, the fire service was contacted, but unfortunately, we had to witness the complete destruction of everything. Everything.

“This came as a complete surprise.” He emphasized the significance of no lives being lost, as he spoke in a video showcasing the charred remains of the once grand auditorium, adorned with vibrant lights and countless steel chairs.

“It can be a difficult experience, no doubt, but everything has a way of working out for the best,” he said, trying to offer comfort despite his voice shaking.

The Mercy Conference was scheduled to take place from January 31, 2024 through February 4, 2024. With the theme Restoration, It featured a lineup of renowned Pentecostal preachers including Joshua Selman, Isaac Oyedepo, Godman Akinlabi, and Yemi Davids who were set to deliver powerful messages during the event. In addition, renowned musicians such as Nathaniel Bassey, Dunsin Oyekan, Victoria Orenze, and Moses Bliss are scheduled to perform at the conference.

Undeterred, Osunmakinde expressed his unwavering determination, stating, “We have faith and will proceed with the conference.”
