Enoch Adejare Adeboye was born in Ifewara, near Ife in thee then Southern Region, British Nigeria, in the year 1943, 2 March, and has recently celebrated his 80th birthday, Baba is a well known and anointed Nigerian pastor and General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God.

Educational Life

In 1956, Enoch Adejare Adeboye began school at Ilesha Grammar School in Ilesha, Osun State.[3] Enoch Adejare Adeboye then went to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in Nsukka, but because of the Nigeria Civil War, he finished his first degree at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), where he got a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1967.

In 1969, he went to the University of Lagos and got a Master’s degree in hydrodynamics. In 1975, he went to the University of Lagos and got a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics.

Ministerial Journey

Adejare Adeboye joined the Redemed Christian Church of God in 1973. Before Pa. Josiah Akindayomi made him a leader in the church in 1975, he worked as an interpreter for the church.[8][9] In 1981, he was made the head of the church. He did the job part-time at Unilorin for three years before giving up his job there to speak full-time.

Before Adeboye became the General Overseer, the church wasn’t very well known. As of March 2017, the church has branches in about 198[1] countries, including Nigeria, where more than 14,000,000 people go to church. Adeboye has said that he wants to make it possible to walk to a church in emerging cities in five minutes and drive there in five minutes in developed cities.

Adeboye is thought to preach the prosperity gospel, which he doesn’t deny. He says that “Pentecostals have such an effect because they talk about the here and now, not just the hereafter… Even though we have to think about heaven, God could help us in the here and now.[

Pastor Adeboye quit as General Overseer in 2017 because of a new law that said people who lead non-profits can only do so for 20 years and can’t be older than 70.

In 2022, when Adeboye turned 80, his organization gave eight dialysis machines, a reverse osmosis medical water purification system, and an electric generator to Wuse District Hospital.

Personal Life

Baba married his beautiful wife Folu Adeboye, the two were married on December 17, 1967. He has three kids and one daughter, as well as several grandchildren from his first marriage. Pastor Enoch Adeboye lost his 42-year-old son Dare Adeboye on May 4, 2021. In May 2023, a movie called “Enoch” came out. It was made to honor Pastor Adeboye’s 81st birthday and tells the story of his life. Adeola Emmanuel Abolaji played the main role.

He has been given a number of honorary degrees.

2011: Honorary doctorate from Ibadan University
2015: Ph.D. from University of Lagos
Obafemi Awolowo University gave him an honorary doctorate in 2016.
2017: Doctor of Divinity from the University of Nigeria
Doctor of Divinity from Oral Roberts University in 2022.

Baba has given money to four universities in Nigeria, including the University of Nigeria and Obafemi Awolowo University.

Newsweek (2008) named him one of the 50 most important people in the world.

In 2019, Adeboye was named by New African magazine as one of the Top 100 most important Africans.
