Educational Background
In 1981, she got a B.Ed. in English Language from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun state. She also went to Harvard Business School and University of Columbia Business School in New York and graduated from both of them.
Somefun started her work at Peat Marwick and Co., then moved to Arthur Andersen (now KPMG) before becoming an executive director at Unity Bank plc.
Career
Tomi Somefun is an experienced Financial Services worker who has worked in Commercial and Investment Banking, Financial and Business Consulting, Audit and Accounting Services, and more for more than 30 years. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. She got her Bachelor of Education in English Language from Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly University of Ife) in 1981. She then studied and worked as a Chartered Accountant for KPMG.
She has taken part in several Executive Training and Management Programs at Harvard Business School, Wharton Business School, and University of Columbia Business School. She is also a graduate of INSEAD, Fontainebleau.
She was named the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria’s Unity Bank Plc, a retail bank, in August 2015. Before she became the Managing Director, she was the Executive Director in charge of the Bank’s Financial Institution Division and Treasury Department. She was also in charge of the Lagos and South-West Business Directorate. From 2004 to 2005, Tomi was the Managing Director of UBA Capital & Trust Ltd. In 2005, he also became the first Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Pension Custodian Ltd.
Tomi loves people, especially young adults, and wants to help them reach their God-given potential despite their problems. She helps people grow professionally and socially by being their guide and giving them advice. She is on the boards of several financial and educational institutions and has been on the advisory boards of several foundations, including the UBA Foundation.
She has a husband, kids, and grandkids.
